What is it about?

We welcome you to celebrate the opening of 2026's festival exhibition with us. Curated by Daniela Arriado, Siren opens during Tromsø International Filmfestival.

Join us for an evening of artists' moving-image, drinks & festivity.

Vernissage: Thursday 22nd January 18:00–21:00

Siren explores how artists today work with alarm, voice and resistance as aesthetic and political strategies. The exhibition is shown in a particularly resonant context: Tromsø Kunstforening is temporarily located in a former nursing home, a space historically characterised by care, silence and restitution. This architecture adds an extra layer of meaning to the exhibition's focus on healing, listening and collective care in a time marked by crises.

The exhibition – featuring works by Eli Cortiñas, Pınar Öğrenci, Dalia Al Kury, Bianca Hisse and Regina José Galindo – explores how female and feminised bodies are monitored, disciplined and given new voices within technological, social and governmental power structures. Through film, sound and performative expression, the artists show how resistance can take the form of rejection, care and speculative hope.

Siren opens up a broader conversation about the role of art in the face of political polarisation, war and democratic decline and reveals how art can function as a place for processing grief, political resistance and new forms of belonging.
